Educating students to
have a greater understanding and appreciation for their natural environment…
Rockin’ C Ranch offers
Outdoor Education field trips to public, private, and home school
students. Whatever grade you teach, we
provide creative, fun, hands-on learning activities for students of all ages
and grade levels.
Rockin’ C Ranch is a perfect setting for outdoor
learning. Situated on a real
East Texas cattle ranch about 1 hour and 45 minutes east of Dallas, Rockin’ C
Ranch was founded on Christian values and promotes character building and
children making good life choices in all they do. Since 1997 we have been serving children,
churches, and schools by providing a fun, safe place for folks of all
ages. We began offering Outdoor
Education to school groups in 2003.
Rockin’
C Ranch is located in a beautiful rural setting with authentic log cabins,
exciting activities, and great food. Nestled
in the piney woods of East Texas, each of our three cabins has a scenic view of
our private lake, and a wrap-around porch. Our guests rest comfortably in our rustic log cabins on wooden bunk
beds. And when it comes to good food,
you’ll be hard pressed to find better. Our staff works hard to prepare healthy, hot meals for our guests. We think you’ll agree that our meals are
second to none!
Outdoor Classes at Rockin’C
are taught by our qualified staff and are correlated with the TEKS that the
state of Texas requires for each grade level. Most of our schools choose our three day, two night program, which
includes four different classes, evening activities, and recreation time. Our curriculum includes the following
classes:
Aquatics: What lies beneath the waters? How do you execute the Scientific
Method? What is the difference between
clean water and healthy water? In this
class students learn about the aquatic community by fishing the depths of our
great lake filled with bass, sunfish, and catfish and by exploring the world of
organisms by seining the shoreline and creeks.
Earth Science: Your students will
learn the components of soil, investigate the layers of soil, and identify soil
properties. They will also learn the
difference between weathering and erosion.
Farm Life and Fishing: Have your students experienced life in the
country lately? If not, they will at
Rockin’ C – feeding and caring for real farm animals on a working cattle
ranch. During the second half of class,
they will use cane poles to learn the joys of fishing and gain a greater
awareness and appreciation for the pond community.
Horseback Riding and Equine Study: How did horses get to America? What were they used for? How did they develop into so many different
breeds? Students learn about the history
and value of the horse in the first half of our equine studies course. The
second half of the course consists of a long trail ride where your students
ride across creeks and pastures -- through beautiful East Texas.
Orienteering: What is a
compass and what is it used for? This
activity will introduce your students to the use of a compass, and they will
have the opportunity to explore the forest looking for marked points using
their new skill. Rockin’ C is all about
seeking direction in more ways than one!
Teambuilding: What do trust, cooperation, and communication
have to do with being a team? Everything! Students experience
the development of those qualities in addition to problem-solving skills as
they work together to accomplish a dynamic task.

"Our students had a great time at
Rockin' C. I most appreciated that we were the only group there- it made me
feel much safer and really cared for. We can't wait to come back." Mike Griffin, Principal, Lindale ISD
“Outdoor
Education is about students having new experiences in the outdoor
classroom. When an activity engages a
child’s mind, hands and senses, he LIVES the lesson. THAT’S when learning really occurs.” LuAnne Ashley, Outdoor Education
